Doyle
made a statement this afternoon:
“You
have to overcome a spirit before you can cast it out.”
The
reply was, “Alright, chapter and verse?”
First,
Hebrews 11:6
But
without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must
believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
But
also,
1 John 2:15
Love
not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the
world, the love of the Father is not in him.
We have
all lived in the world, or we are of the world, but we must overcome the world
and not love it. Do you see that? Why?
James 4:4
Ye
adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is
enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy
of God.
So how
do we overcome the world?
1 John 5:4
For
whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that
overcometh the world, even our faith.
How
does our faith overcome the world?
First
consider,
Mark 12:30
And
thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and
with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. *
But how
do we love God?
2 John 6
And
this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment,
That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
Now
consider where does that faith come from that will overcome the world so we can
cast out that spirit;
Hebrews 12:2
Looking
unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set
before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right
hand of the throne of God.
Do you
see that Jesus Christ authors our faith? And finishes our faith? Jesus overcame
the world when he was raised from the dead, as he says here,
John 16:33
These
things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye
shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Therefore
he is able to author and finish our faith. Jesus lived by faith, he walked by
faith, he preached the gospel by the Spirit with faith, as he says here;
John 6:63
It is
the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak
unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
II Corinthians 4 tells
us that faith Jesus walked in and we walk in is a spirit:
2 Corinthians 4:13
We
having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and
therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
Consider
the faith we receive;
Romans 12:3
For I
say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to
think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly,
according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
God has
given us a measure of faith according to the grace given unto us;
Romans 12:5-8
5 So
we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
6
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether
prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
7 Or
ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;
8 Or he
that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity;
he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
That
faith given to us is a gift,
Ephesians 2:8
For by
grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of
God:
Do you
see this verse? First of all we are saved by grace through faith, and that is a
gift of God. Everything that we received after being saved is through grace and
faith. Do you see how that goes right along with Hebrews 12, as to Jesus being
the author and finisher of our faith?
Having
understanding of these scriptures you can see you have to overcome the world
with your faith that is given to you by Jesus, and when you have overcome that
spirit you are wrestling with you will have the faith to cast it out.
God
bless,

Servant
and apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ
*This is not one of the ten. Look at where
this first commandment was given:
Deuteronomy 6:1-25
1 Now
these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord
your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye
go to possess it:
2 That
thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his
commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all
the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
3 Hear
therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and
that ye may increase mightily, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath promised
thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
4 Hear,
O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:
5 And
thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul,
and with all thy might.
6 And
these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And
thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when
thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou
liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And
thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets
between thine eyes.
9 And
thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
10 And
it shall be, when the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land which
he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee
great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
11 And
houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged,
which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not;
when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
12 Then
beware lest thou forget the Lord, which brought thee forth out of the land of
Egypt, from the house of bondage.
13 Thou
shalt fear the Lord thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.
14 Ye
shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about
you;
15 (For
the Lord thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the Lord thy God
be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
16 Ye
shall not tempt the Lord your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
17 Ye
shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his
testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.
18 And
thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the Lord: that it
may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land
which the Lord sware unto thy fathers.
19 To
cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the Lord hath spoken.
20 And
when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies,
and the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord our God hath commanded you?
21 Then
thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the Lord
brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:
22 And
the Lord shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh,
and upon all his household, before our eyes:
23 And
he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land
which he sware unto our fathers.
24 And
the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for
our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.
25 And
it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments
before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us.
